Can DNA Justify Behavior?

The myopic narcissism that plagues man has never been more grossly displayed in modern history than in the latter part  of the  20th Century.  While mankind is getting more and more vile in displays of immorality, the “I am a good person” mantra grows louder, almost to convince themselves of the blatant falsehood. This self deification has attempted to blur the clear boundaries of good and evil, as mankind, in his innate selfishness, longs to believe the lie. It seems today that the term “evil” is seldom applied to the violent criminals in our prisons, the Islamic terrorists who want to kill us or those who kill the unborn, but is commonly applied to Conservatives and Christians.

In man’s attempt to make all things permissible, many have now taken to the argument that genetic programming determines what they do therefore they are not accountable for their actions. I believe that this excuse has been subconsciously generated to defy the conscience awareness of right and wrong that each person has been designed with in our souls.  Though many of these people are unaware that they have a worldview, it is evident that their belief is grounded in the idea of evolution and many heartily accept this myth. The idea that we have evolved out of a pool of slime now justifies acting like slime, reduces man to non-thinking, impulsive, reactionary beings with no conscience, self awareness or free will.

Let’s step outside of reality for a moment and entertain this idea as it applies to homosexuality.  Suppose there is a gay gene that was placed in people through evolutionary processes. Let’s also suppose that the complexity of DNA could evolve and be sustained without an Intelligent Designer we will call God. Lastly, we will suppose that the genetic programming has been dispersed throughout the human gene pool. If you grant all of these conditions, we still have a problem. When applying the laws of Natural Selection as understood by the Evolutionist, how did the gay gene survive over millions of years?  By natural selection, the gene should be extinct by the inability to reproduce. If the gene were passed on through heterosexual relationships, then that discounts the genetic programming argument by demonstrating the ability to control the gene, thus controlling behavior.  You can make a similar argument about a heterosexual womanizer.  When I was in college, I had a roommate who considered it acceptable to bed a woman by any deceit necessary.  When confronted about his treacherous acts, his answer was ‘I’m a guy’ implying that some testosterone driven force made decisions for him.  This is non-sense considering the number of men I knew who seemed to be able to control lust and made good decisions regarding women.  This was simply an out of control boy who wanted to taste all of the candy in the candy store and lacked the moral currency to purchase a piece of candy.

The reason that I take the time to spell this out is that once you identify behavior with genetics, you instantly create a link to justify any actions regardless of how vile they may be. This idea of genetic determinism will quickly erode any society and undermines the laws that enforce moral and ethical behavior. Our entire social fabric is woven with personal responsibility and once we remove this responsibility, nobody can be held accountable for any crime, criminal, civil or misdemeanor.

I use homosexuality in the example above, but really nothing is exempt.   Polygamy, adultery, pedophilia, bestiality and rape all become permissible under this philosophy.  In a recent case in Austria, a man argued in court that he was genetically programmed to be a rapist.  No personal responsibility, no remorse, and no desire for consensual sex just simply that he was made to be a rapist and he cannot control his desire to rape no more than you control your need to breathe.  His argument is Darwinian in nature as he sees women as a means to an end.  If survival of the fittest is the law that caused a pool of slime to evolve into an organized community of slime, then how can we condemn this rapist for his animal instincts?  Now most clear thinking people will hear this and dismiss it as a desperate attempt to get out of jail, but if we are honest about it, this argument is no different than other arguments being made about their behavior.

In another recent case in America, the ACLU argued on behalf of a group of pedophiles, known as NAMBLA, that these men have a right to express and publish their opinions even if those opinions describe and advise members how to break the law. The case stems from a member of the group who abducted, murdered and raped a young boy after NAMBLA literature encouraged him to act on the feelings he claims to have been suppressing.  This vile group holds the view that their lust for young boys is normal because they are genetically programmed to desire these types of relations.  Though NAMBLA actively promotes the rape of male children, they are convinced that they are doing nothing wrong and infer genetic programming.  They also cite the misogyny of ancient Greece as “proof” that this is natural and that they are the victims of arbitrary laws.  This gross illustration demonstrates not only the depths of man’s depravity, but also how embracing a false assertion with zero scientific credibility can lead man to try and justify any behavior.  One of the greatest atrocities in the history of man, the Holocaust, can be tied to this line of reasoning.  Hitler's entire idea of creating a pure race was based on Nietzsche's Ubermensch which was grounded in the idea of self improvement through survival of the fittest and attaining a new ethical paradigm that proclaimed the death of God.  The Nazi eugenics philosophy reasoned that to murder the Jews was to do nothing more than cleanse the gene pool.  A more recent study in Australia is now claiming that wives are genetically programmed to be antagonistic towards mother in laws.  Of course the study cannot produce legitimate genetic verification and makes many exceptions such as social conditions, but it is still being marketed at another study tying behavior to genetic programming.  One has to question the motives of this study because it appears that this study exists for the sole purpose of promoting dissension among traditional family units.

In closing, I would add that tying behavior to a genetic code such as skin color, eye color, height, degenerative diseases, etc without having actual scientific proof is a dangerous road that will lead any society to ruin.  The very idea will erode the fabric of any civilized society as any type of criminal act can be justified by turning the criminal into the victim.  We are seeing a microcosm of this in the homosexual movement.  It is no longer acceptable to coexist with gays, now it has become "in your face" evangelism of the gay lifestyle.    Their activities include lobbying to change the definition of marriage, lobbying for hate crime legislation, introducing material into elementary schools that promotes a homosexual lifestyle to children and recently in San Francisco, a teacher taking small children on a field trip to a lesbian ceremony that simulated an actual wedding.  The radical left in the gay movement are aware that in the name of political correctness, they can do whatever they want and no one will challenge them at the risk of being called a bigot or a homophobe.  I find this term homophobe amusing as it was invented by liberals to brand perceived enemies of the gay movement as fearful and irrational. Most phobias are based on irrational fear which is why the gays have selected the term as a way to legitimize their behavior while branding traditionalists as irrational.  To find a persons actions morally reprehensible is quite different than fearing that action. Imagine the Austrian rapist or NAMBLA invoking a term such as a rapistphobe. It is a foolish idea that would even outrage most homosexuals, but somehow political correctness has made hypocrisy a one way street.

Michael Jackson, OPM and the City of Fallen Angels

Much has been said about the cost of the Michael Jackson Memorial that took place in Los Angeles this past week.  When I first heard the story, I thought it was a joke, possibly a satiracal piece on a politically correct scenario being carried out to the absurd.  To my surprise, I learned that this is an actual consideration.   There seems to be a debate over an issue that common sense would not normally grant any creedence to.  The issue is "who should pay for the event?"  Seems like a silly question for most of us as all families are responsible for the cost of their own memorial services, so it is ludicrous that one of the most successful families in the world could not cover their own costs.  Well, when it comes to the brain trust that is the L.A. City Council, don't underestimate their ability to veer off the road of common sense right into Never Never Land.

L.A. City Councilman, Jan Perry, has lobbied to the City Council to cover the cost of the memorial service on behalf of the Jackson family.  This is the same city that has asked city employees to take a 10% paycut while other employees  are facing possible layoffs.  In a city with the highest paid teachers in the nation and nearly the lowest test scores in the nation, the city council is considering giving a gift in the form of tax dollars to one of the richest families in America.  In a city that just increased sales tax to almost 10% to cover the fiscal incompetence of local government, Ms. Perry wants to increase her street cred by paying millions of dollars on behalf of the Jackson family.  It is unclear if the L.A. City Council is grossly incompetent, blinded by arrogance or caught up in the Obama nanny state hysteria, whatever the reason, it is quite clear that their time in service to the community has run it's course.

Since there seems to be a financial crisis in which the family cannot pay for the event, I would like to offer a few helpful suggestions to address this problem.  First, the family missed a tremendous opportunity to generate revenue in Los Angeles which could have covered all of the costs.  Below I have listed Seven Easy Steps to a Profitable Celebrity Memorial:

1) Instead of giving away tickets, sell tickets or do an auction which would have been more lucrative; 2) The event was televised widely so they could have generated SuperBowl type ad revenue; 3) They could have produced a commerative DVD of the service to be sold online which would generate more revenue; 4) Concessions, parking and a commemorative program are another revenue stream, though I understand they did give away a very nice, hearty program; 5) Make a collectable t-shirt for sale to commemorate the event; 6) Huge revenue could be generated from sponsors such as the ACLU, NAMBLA and the NAACP; 7) This worship service would not be complete without an offering; considering that the net-worth of the high roller celebrity guestlist is north of $1billion dollars, it seems reasonable that they would pony up to cover the cost of "one of their own."

Now they did miss the boat on Los Angeles, but there is nothing to prevent them from taking this show on the road.  I am not sure if there is any "east coast" "west coast" tension when it comes to Michael Jackson, but still there are plenty of cities that would welcome the show, in fact the show could travel worldwide and produce hundreds of millions of dollars.  I am providing this hundred million dollar idea on behalf of the good folks of Los Angeles to try and avert the misuse of tax dollars.  Since I am in a giving mood myself, I will only require a ten percent commission after expenses on the proceedes from the tour.  If the show is not that profitable, at least we can keep the hype alive to continue generating album sales and as a last resort, a failed tour could probably even hit the man up for a bailout.

Do Words still Matter?

Can you have a meaningful dialogue if one of the participants in the conversation continues to redefine words?

When I was in college, as a young student of religion and philosophy, it was always impressed upon me that in order to have a meaningful conversation, we must define our terms. Whether the context was a critical paper, a debate on utilitarian ethics or a simple ad hoc discussion, the conversation could never progress without commonly accepted definitions of terms, a sort of rule book for definitions. When engaging in an exchange of ideas, the ability to communicate, defend or be critical of ideas is entirely contingent upon the foundation of meaningful words. If one party chooses not to accept this common foundation, the potential for progress and achieving a resolution is dead.

I have become increasingly aware of the practice in the current political climate to redefine words for political expedience. The foundation for this trend has been put in place by various segments of society including media and entertainment circles. Now, this trend is growing rapidly among liberal politicians. For political expedience, both Democrats and Republicans are contributing to the practice of falsely associating words with definitions that violate the traditional meaning of the words in both historical and cultural context. More troubling is that this assault on vocabulary has been promoted by media outlets, television programs and unchallenged by many Americans.

Though this practice of redefining words and phrases is not an attribute traditionally associated with liberalism, it is well known by anyone who has tried to understand the modern liberal that they are more accurately defined, not by what they stand for, but by what they are against.  So it should come as no surprise that even the definition of words are being distorted to try and define traditional Americans out of existence.

Conservative values, traditional values, family values and American values are now being defined as extremist views.  Extremism is synonymous with radicalism which is defined as a departure from the usual or traditional. The problem with this view is that it is blatantly dishonest. The above mentioned values share some moral and ethical beliefs such as promoting abstinence, marriage defined as one man and one woman, pro-life, small government, the right to bare arms, capital punishment, rugged individualism and understanding that our unalienable rights come from God. These are moral and ethical beliefs that have been embraced and practiced by millions of Americans for over 200 years, yet the modern liberal is attempting to brand these views as extreme and out of touch.

An example has been the attack on traditional marriage. History bears witness that marriage has been defined as one man and one woman for thousands of years in hundreds of countries and dozens of cultures. In the history of Western Civilization, marriage has been overwhelmingly accepted and defined as one man and one woman, however leftist liberals have launched an attack on marriage to redefine the meaning of the word to include homosexual relationships. There has been occasion when some have tried to include the practice of polygamy under the marriage banner, but those were never embraced by society or maintained legal status.  Though history records that homosexuality is nothing new, it also shows us that gay relationships have never been included in the definition of marriage.

In a second example, the Pro-Life position has always held the position that life begins at conception, therefore to terminate a pregnancy with an abortion is to terminate a life. It seems to follow, at least if you have static definitions of words, that the opposing view of being Pro-Life would be Pro-Death, however the term Pro-Choice has been invoked to emphasize individual woman’s right to choose diverting attention from the ending of a life. In addition to this misdirection, the left has labeled the Pro-Life movement as “anti-abortion” seeking to portray the Pro-Life movement as religious zealots who are attempting to infringe on the individual liberties of women. The problem with this straw man argument is that because life begins at conception, the Pro-Life movement is defending the individual liberty of the unborn child.

Continuing on, shortly after President Obama assumed office, he quickly began his assault on the English language in order to redefine controversial issues to be congruent with his political ideology. Some of these words and phrases include the War on Terror, Enemy Combatant, Torture, Stimulus and Czar.

Two months after taking office, the War on Terror was changed to “Overseas Contingency Operation.” Though America continues to fight two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the Global War on Terror, Obama caved to war critics who felt the term misrepresents America’s enemies. The problem is that removing the term ‘War on Terror’ does not change the reality that the U.S. Military is still engaged in battles overseas with American lives in danger against a global network of Islamic terrorists who refer to America as the Great Satan and have vowed to destroy us.

There are many other examples from the new, far left Obama administration. For example, the Enhanced interrogation methods used by U.S. Intelligence agencies are now being called torture, though no interrogated suspect ever sustained effects traditionally associated with torture such as physical injury, dismemberment, broken bones, internal organ failure or death. Based on the new definition, not only do I believe in torture, but I have been tortured by my parents, grandparents, employers, teachers, and my junior high classmates.

Further assaults on vocabulary include pork barrel spending is now called stimulus instead of abuse of fiscal power, terrorists are called insurgents, illegal immigrants are now undocumented workers, and the president has now introduced fourteen Czars (and counting) to over see various programs on the political agenda. These Czars are being introduced as experts ignoring the definition of a Czar as one having great power and authority. What is more troubling about this term is the negative connotation of the word in history, specifically the Russian Czars who were violent dictators who executed their own citizens, banned free speech and seized a majority of personal property in Russia.

The final example I will provide came from a movie. It is no secret that Hollywood does not hold any traditional values sacred, but I was shocked as I watched a movie called ‘The Golden Compass’, allegedly a children’s movie. In the movie, every person has a personal demon represented as an animal or some furry friendly critter. I will not pretend to know the motives of selecting the term demon to represent these companions, but I must conclude that the story makers are either severely ignorant of the term or have strategically inserted the word to introduce spiritism to children and put a friendly face on the occult. The definition of demon according to secular, non-religious dictionaries is “an evil spirit or a source or agent of evil to cause harm, distress or ruin.” In reading the definition, I have to wonder if the authors of this story were influenced by their own demons.

In closing, I will simply add that progress for any movement requires that words have meanings. For those involved in the culture war and concerned about preserving traditional American values, do not be misled by attempts to confuse issues, revise history or misrepresent conservative values. Know what you believe, why you believe it and challenge these antics to quickly see that they do not have answers. You may not have any influence over the carnival barkers of the left wing agenda, but you can have great influence on those going into the tent. You will know that you have been successful when you start receiving personal attacks, the liberal end game of every meaningful conversation.
